Is the City on board?

Yes. Mayor Karen Bass and the Los Angeles City Council are working towards doubling our bus fleet in time for the 2028 Olympic Games.

We also have the “28 by 28” Initiative (started during the Garcetti administration) that includes 28 transportation infrastructure projects to be completed by the 2028 Olympics as well. This is currently behind schedule but working in a productive direction.

What are outside experts saying?

Consensus on specific benchmarks for public transit are harder to come by.

Los Angeles currently has just over 2,000 buses in its fleet.

We have 109 miles of rail as of early 2025 with plans to add another 40-50 miles through Measure M.

For comparison – New York City has over 245 miles of rail lines.
